CO2 measurements are required at natural gas custody transfer points to ensure the levels are low enough to meet quality specifications for pipeline transportation. CO2 is a naturally occurring diluent in oil and gas reservoirs and it can react with H2S and H2O to make corrosive compounds that threaten steel pipelines. Removal of CO2 from natural gas utilizes membrane technologies or larger amine plants. Rapid online analysis is sometimes critical to prevent volumes of contaminated gas from accidentally traveling downstream where it can affect combustion and cause other problems.
